Fashion designer finds inspiration in travel

A traveler of the world and a New York native, Edward Wilkerson brings a global and sophisticated aesthetic to the modern American woman.

As the Lafayette 148 Design Director in New York, Wilkerson travels the world for inspiration. He brings a rich cultural touch to his feminine and chic creations using luxurious fabrics and exquisite couture. A true artist, Wilkerson is inspired by the culture, architecture and rich palettes of every exotic place he visits. Traveling has taught me to see beauty in everything, said Wilkerson.

He creates refined and sophisticated models that allow a woman to create her own style. Mixing the fabric, texture and color is a feature of the Lafayette 148 collection.

Inspired by Indochinese influences, Lafayette 148 offers at the beginning of the season are expressed in fine fabrics, creating a light and airy atmosphere. Contrast is the key; soft leather mixed with fluid muslin and cotton seersucker combined with fluid linen. The colors inspired by the spa -; beach glass, taupe, muslin and coral -; are accented with shiny gold. Fluid and feminine skirts in solids and prints are paired with fitted short jackets.

Wilkerson's Moroccan stay is apparent in a group of colors and fabrics reminiscent of a brightly colored street bazaar, evoking saturated spicy shades of cinnabar, curry, chocolate and orchid. Distinctive artisan embellishments such as pearls, embroidery and jeweled sequins define the look.

Another group evokes a chic seaside destination, wild Ibiza, with bright and colorful impressions; or dazzling St. Barts with its white sand beaches and clear blue waters. White featherweight knits are associated with complete folk skirts. Cool and windy dresses are the must-haves of summer.
