Like all the 80s, leotards are back!

Fashion, like many other things in history, seems to work in cycles. Bell's funds came back, the afros came back, and the shaggy 70's look came back to the left and came back. The cycle continues to wear dancewear, and it's obvious that when you enter a trendy nightclub or concert leotards are making their comeback!

The leotard culminated in the 1970s, at the time of disco and Fonda. Today, more than 30 years later, this one-piece ensemble is appearing in fashion magazines, concerts and vintage shops. The leotards come back in the wake of other clothes of the 70s and 80s, like leggings and skinny jeans, and the trend seems to be adopted by the masses.

The original leotard appeared for the first time in 1859. It owes its name to the creator, a French aerialist, Jules Leotard, when he appeared during a French flying trapeze show. The first edition of the garment was a hand-knit jersey that covered her wrists to her ankles. In fact, it was more a unitard than a real leotard. The stories about the revealing nature of clothing attract as many people as the performance itself, which does not venture so far from today's truth either.

Ballet artists, models, models of lingerie, the undershirts were then part of pop culture during the 1960s and 1970s. However, in the late 80s and 90s, the jerseys were limited to ballet shows and only rarely appeared in pop music or the nightlife of the big markets once the era of the hair band was over. All of this is changing now that the first decade of the 21st century is heading towards completion.

The superheroes are the only group not to know that leotards are making their comeback. Many comic book heroes are dressed in leotards and classic cape clothing. In fact, one could argue that Halloween and the affinity of boys for super heroes are what allowed the leotard industry to survive over the last decade.

It is true that leotards are making their comeback. Nearly 20 years after the hair bands and unitard costumes have taken the path of dodo, the leotard look returns with performers, dancers and clubbers. The new trend is making its way into the consciousness of pop culture by being simple, sexy and vintage. Everything in history goes in cycles, including fashion, so it's no surprise that the wonder of one-piece clothing is back. And then, moon boots and parachute pants? Stay tuned, as the advancement of the leotard can be seen as an announcement that everything can come back as long as the pop stars are ready to put them forward.
