Prom Dresses What is your style?

For many girls, the prom is the most important event of their high school years. It's not a euphemism to say that you will remember your prom night for the rest of your life. Given its importance in high school and beyond, it is essential that you wear a dress that makes you feel and be at your best.

Before you start

Before you even start shopping for prom dresses, take the time to think about your style. If you like to mingle with the crowd, you probably will not be comfortable with bright red pageant dresses. On the other hand, if you like spotlights, avoid dresses that evoke the bridesmaid dress.

Keep in mind, though, that prom is a great opportunity to step outside your comfort zone. You're probably not used to wearing evening gowns, so all the  prom dresses   will seem a little foreign to you. If you have always dreamed of being a princess of fairy tales, a prom dress can make you feel like royalty. Similarly, if you've always wanted to highlight your inner siren, beaded  cocktail dresses   will allow you to dive your feet in these waters.

See what's available

Once you've thought about your personal style, go online to a prom dress site and see what's available. You will probably find designer evening dresses such as Sherri Hill, Jovani, Nightline, Faviana and many more. Spend time thinking about the type of dress that will make you feel good and let you shine on your special night. Are you comfortable with strapless dresses or do you prefer suspenders? Do you like the shimmer of glitter and pearls, or the rustle of tulle? Do you want to show off the skin and go with a backless dress or one that shows your belly, or are you  more comfortable   with a solid bodice? Are you daring enough for a thigh slit, or do you want a long dress with a train?

You may already have a distinct personal style and need a dress that meets your needs. If you opt for simple and clean lines and not a lot of flash, you will probably want to go with a Niteline dress. If you are a Goth, look for dark red or purple accents on a black background and imagine how you can accessorize with jewels, stockings and shoes. If your religious denomination requires you to dress modestly, look for  prom dresses   that are suitable or that can be modified to meet your needs.

Go shopping!

Although you can undoubtedly find the greatest variety of  prom dresses   online, it's hard to tell from a photo whether a particular style will fit you well. It's worth going to a local store and trying on dresses that have lines, cuts and features similar to the ones you found online. If you find a style that suits you particularly well, you can order it online.
