1. Are ceramic tiles suitable for your space?
Ceramic tiles have many advantages. It is really durable and easy to clean. However, this is not the best option in some spaces. During the winter months, ceramic tiles can really withstand the cold, so you may not want to use them in a basement. Some types can be slippery. Therefore, if you plan to place a tile as an entrance, you should choose a more non-slip variety.
2. Select the correct size, style and texture
Ceramic tiles come in all shapes and sizes - from one inch to two feet. The most common size slabs measure between one and a foot and a half. Choosing the right size is actually easier than you think. Just determine the size of your room, then choose the size that suits you. For example, if you have a smaller room, a large tile would not be the best option because it would look like panels rather than tiles. A big tile is really better for large spaces because they look less busy than the little ones.
Currently, there are many styles of ceramic tiles to choose from. The easiest way to limit your options is to choose the type of look you want. If you want a rustic and natural look, you should consider a sturdy and natural looking tile instead of a polished marble.
Choose a tile with the texture that best suits the theme of your room. If you opt for a natural-looking rustic tile, it will be rougher than a polished marble surface. When choosing a texture, you must consider safety. The smoother a surface is, the more likely it is to be slippery when wet. If you have children or seniors at home, a very bright tile is not the best option from a safety point of view.
3. Choose an appropriate color and grout width
Grout is a mixture of cement to which one adds color to complete your tiles. The grout fills the space between the tiles, so you need to choose a grout width and a color that fits your space.
4. Materials and methods of installation
There are different methods of installation and a successful installation will really depend on the materials used, the energy and the patience invested in the project. You will want to make sure that you are doing the right preparation and that you have all the equipment you need on hand. You will need to make sure that you buy a high quality bonding material, a grout (as mentioned above), a sealer and the right tools to complete the project.
