Techniques to properly finish drywall

If you ask someone who installs drywall professionally, he will tell you that his installation is almost an art. You must remember that installing drywall is not as easy as nailing nails  to install   it. It's a lot more complicated than that and it will take years to perfect the process of installing drywall and get a perfect, professional quality finish.

As a maker yourself, you must keep in mind that the installation of drywall can be done even without much experience. It's not that difficult, but there are certain things you need to know about the process to be able to do it without committing a lot of costly mistakes.

The first thing you need to keep in mind is to have everything you need before you start. You must have the tools and equipment you need before you start installing the drywall. For this type of project, you will need several things, such as joint compound, hand knife spreader, joint tape, application knife and bread pan. You will also need a corner recording tool.

Once you have the tools you need, you are now ready  to install   your drywall.

Another tip you need to keep in mind is that drywall requires accurate measurements. You must also ensure that each panel you install is securely attached to the supports or foundations on which it is nailed. In addition, there is nothing more embarrassing that your newly installed drywall collapses sharply when you receive visitors around your house.

You must also remember that the nails you use must be long enough for the panels to stay securely on their supports. You can also  use screws   if you wish, or you can use them together with the nails to provide more support.

When installing drywall, you must remember that it is essential to mix the cement or mud to the correct consistency. The consistency of the mixture should look like cherry on a cake and should not be too stiff or too loose. To check for consistency, pick up drywall mud with a trowel and hold the trowel upside down. Mud should not fall when you do this. And when you apply cement or mud to drywall joints, you should not put in too much effort or be able to do it easily.

You must also remember that when you are mixing the mud, do not whip the cement. The action of the whip will draw air into the mud, which can form bubbles when applied in gypsum joints.

Another good tip to remember when finishing drywall is to use mesh tape instead of paper tape. Due to the fact that the mesh is porous, it can provide you with a much smoother finish after applying mud or cement.
