Pointe Shoes- Shopping for your first pair

Getting your first pair of pointe shoes is a memory to remember so soon. From the first blisters to the limelight during the recital, your shoes will allow you to realize your dreams of dance.

It is important to have your pointe shoes installed by a person who understands the purpose of the shoe and the requirements of the dancer's body. Be sure to ask questions about the referrals of the person doing the fitting, especially if you have concerns about understanding your needs.

When adjusting, bring socks or thin tights to keep the shoes clean and to create an accurate fit. Ask your teacher if she has any preferences for shoes and stuffing suggestions. Understand the requirements that will be imposed on your shoes by knowing the number of lessons per week that you will follow with peaks and the duration of these courses. Call in advance for an appointment whenever possible to ensure personalized service.

Once you have found the shoes you like, test them. Take them off, walk for a few minutes, then try them again. If they still feel comfortable with you and your teacher or fit professional, it's likely that you've found your best starting shoe.

If you have concerns, consider taking the shoes to your teacher for a second opinion. Ask about the exchange policy before buying the shoes. If you get a second opinion, wear clean tights while trying the shoes and use a clean towel on the floor. Do not bend, crush, or break shoes until you are sure you want to keep them.

Above all, enjoy the experience. To this day, I look with a smile the moment I bought my first pair of pointe shoes. It is a joy that brings new challenges and experiences that will help you grow as a dancer.
