Attic renovation plan, just a few notes to remember

As a homeowner, our goal is always to change things in the home, whether it's as simple as decorating a room, building additional rooms, or having an attic renovation plan.

Renovating the attic could be fun and challenging. Because of its shape, it could be used in many ways imaginable. But depending on what you want to do, you need to consider some considerations before you start.

Permission in planning

If you plan to create an extension or perform large conversions, or if you also want to create something new in addition to the old one, such projects will require planning permission. In doing so, you must submit your application for this purpose to your local government and allow it six to eight weeks to review and respond to it.

Once approved, it is then submitted to calls from local residents. If the project encounters no resistance, you will get permission. This permit is valid for three years. If you have not started the project for this reason for any reason, you must start the same process again.

Authorized changes

This is commonly known as authorized development allowance, which the local government has defined to allow homeowners to add volume to their property. The size of this is 50 to 70 cubic meters. It all depends on your type of residence.

If on the map you see that you will not exceed the given allocation, you can skip this part because you no longer need their permission.

In the meantime, if you have already made changes to your property in the past and want to do more, you must first calculate how much space you left in the allowed area by subtracting the size of the previous project.

Project design

This is an exciting step because you will already see on paper what you are planning for the place once it is done. For this, you can hire a professional and make suggestions as to what you want to see on the result or, if it is not so complicated, you can try to design the project yourself.

Protect yourself

In every part of the house you want to change, the first thing you think about is your safety. Before using contractors to start the project, check every detail, safety measures, exits and entrances, railings, if the result is suitable for children, especially if you have children at home. Think of all the possibilities and choose the best options available to secure your home.

Light and temperature

Make sure the attic will be well ventilated, to avoid problems in the future. Design it so that there are enough windows where air can circulate. See also about its lighting conditions. If the location does not receive good exposure to natural light, install lighting fixtures that are appropriate for its size.
