The skinny on skinny jeans

Stop the presses. You do not have to be skinny to wear lean. In fact, the skinny jeans evoke a look and not a waist.

The resurgence of skinny and straight jeans is part of a modern 80s trend built from the usual favorite looks, said Caroline Calvin, Senior Vice President of Global Creation at Levi's. Straight has existed since the invention of the 501 over 130 years ago, Skinny is built from a sexy rock look and both will be hot this year with women and men. She added that while leg opening remains in the foreground, there are easy ways to take advantage of this look and some interesting trends in the trend to note.

Caroline Calvin explains how to wear jeans skinny and straight

  • Wear long tunics for a long, lean look or a knit sweater to create a striking balance.
  • High heels, high heels, high heels! A pair of high heels will give you a sexy, long and slim look with skinny or straight jeans.
  • For a classic style inspired by Audrey Hepburn, try a pair of ballerinas with a fitted cut. If Sienna Miller is no longer your style icon, wear it with longer skinny jeans and a long tunic top, but remember that this look is perfect for small frames.
  • Guys can feel as cool as James Dean by putting on a pair of vintage style sneakers with skinny straight jeans.

Pair skinny jeans with a soft high heel boot. The size of the boot makes the leg thinner. For the same effect, try wearing one of the new stacked skinny style jeans, such as the Levi's Capital Skimmer Jean. Stacking at the ankle provides a visual balance much like a slim fit.

According to Calvin, the five main trends of the lean and straight look are

1. Clean, dark finishes and washes, including gray and black.

2. Appearance of authentic vintage finishes with hand-repaired stitches and patchwork and frayed leg openings.

3. Different lengths: women will see everything from the very long to the short film, through the short (knee), while men will prefer extra-long styles and ankles.

4. Modern details, although they are slim in that they have a more fitted cut, the style will include cargo pockets, elasticated ankle bands and retro-inspired patches.
