Oak hardwood floors

What is a hardwood? Unlike its name, hardwood does not mean that wood is harder than any other, however, hardwood is considered more dense than other species. The most common uses of hardwood are building materials, especially floor coverings. Popular hardwood species include cherry, maple and alder, but the most widely used is oak.

There are basically two types of oak ideal for flooring: red oak and white oak. The characteristics of each will be briefly discussed here.

Red oak hardwood floor

Red oak is probably one of the most popular choices for hardwood floors. Firstly because it is plentiful and then because it has a rather reddish hue that appeals to most interior designers and homeowners. Red oak is also a relatively dense type of hardwood, so it is more resistant to normal wear and tear. Its texture is a bit rough but there is nothing that sanding can not fix.

Oak hardwood floor

White oak is more resistant to moisture than red oak, but it is more widely available. Because of its strength and durability, the builders even use it to make barrels and ship wood. In addition, various types of hues and finishing tones are beautifully reflected on white oak. It has a medium to coarse texture, so it's up to you to decide if you still want to sand it down.
