Test your pool

It is very important that you regularly test the water in your pool. In this way, you can be sure that bacteria and algae are not present in unacceptable amounts. With algae, you will see it forming, which is a sign that you need to take better care of your pool. The bacteria are different because you probably will not see them form. The only way to know if everything is fine is to test the water.

You can do it in different ways. One of them is to take samples of your pool water from a dealer. They will use different types of tests to examine. They will give you a computer print with all the data relating to your pool. If there are problems, you will also get information on how to solve them.

Sometimes this type of analysis is free because you bought your pool from them. Other times, they charge a fee each time you bring them samples for evaluation purposes. Taking samples regularly can, however, take a long time. You may also have problems if you do not have a local place to do the testing for you. It can be difficult and expensive to send these samples to a company.

A better, more practical option is to get a kit that allows you to search for bacteria at home. In this way, you can do it when it suits your schedule. This process is also more profitable in the long run. Since there are a lot of expenses associated with maintaining a pool, you should try to eliminate the ones you can.

You can test the pH level in your pool with strips that you dive into the water. They have been chemically treated to react to your pool water. You will have a chart that comes with the bands so that you can compare the color you get with the key. Depending on the results, you may need to add various products because you do not want the water to be too acidic or alkaline. The range that you want for your pH level is 7.0 to 7.6.

At least once a week, you should test the levels of chlorine, pH and conditioners in your pool. Every month, you must test the calcium and the amount of dissolved solids in the water. Of course, tests are not effective if you do not know what the results mean. There are standards that you should obtain for each test domain. If your results do not meet these standards, you need to make some changes to your routine. This may be adding some products or changing what you use. Make sure you know the acceptable range in these areas depending on the size of your pool.

Never guess if you have a pool problem that you can not solve. Adding more and less of that is not an effective way of dealing with it. In fact, you may end up with things so unbalanced that your only hope is to empty the pool and start all over again. You want to avoid this because of the cost of the water that you will waste to do it. Refilling your pool is also a very tedious process which means that your pool will be unusable for a while.
