Vacuum configurations

Vacuum cleaners are devices that use an air pump to create a partial vacuum that sucks up dirt and dust, usually carpeted floors. Most homes that have carpets have a vacuum cleaner for cleaning. The dirt that is extracted from the carpet is collected by a filtering system or even by a cyclone for later disposal.

There are several types of configurations available for vacuum cleaners.

Law

Law vacuums have the pump mounted directly above the suction intake, with the bag mounted directly on the handle, which will rise to waist height or so.

Vertical type models normally use mechanical drummers that often rotate the brushes to help disrupt enough dust to be sucked up. These drummers are normally driven by a belt that is attached to the vacuum engine.

Box

Also known as cylindrical vacuum cleaners, can-type designs have the motor and bag in a separate canister unit that connects to the suction head through a flexible hose. Even though vertical units have been tested as being more efficient, the lighter and more manageable heads of cartridge models are very popular. Some models have motorized heads, which contain the same type of mechanical beaters as the vertical units, even if they are driven by a separate electric motor.

Wet vacs / Dry vacs

These are a specialized form of the sled vacuum cleaner and can also be used to clean wet or liquid spills. They generally accept wet and dry soils, some of which are equipped with a switch or exhaust port that reverses the flow of air. This is a very useful function for everything from cleaning dirty pipes to dust blowing in a corner for easy collection.

Vac backpack

These types of vacuum cleaners are commonly used for commercial cleaning because they allow you to move quickly and efficiently in a large space. These are essentially canisters, except that straps are used to carry the can on the back.

Built or central

These types of vacuum cleaners move the vacuum motor and bag to a central location in the building and provide suction outlets at strategic locations throughout the building. Just carry the hose and pickup head from room to room. The pipe is normally 25 feet long and allows a wide range of motion without changing the suction sockets.

The plastic piping will connect the suction ports to the central unit. The vacuum may not be fed or have drummers operating using an electric motor or a pneumatic motor. The bag in the central vacuum is normally so large that emptying or changing it should be done less often, sometimes once a year.
