Dry and wet vacuum cleaners

The wet / dry vacuum combination is no longer just for a workshop. Over the years, driving technology has dramatically improved, reducing the squealing noises for which vacuum cleaners were so well known.

When you go out to buy a dry / wet vacuum with both wet and dry features, you need to know some details. Vacuum cleaners are available in a variety of different sizes and powers, ranging from 6 to 22 gallons and 1.5 to 10.5 HP. The capacity of the wet / dry vacuum cleaner must correspond to your needs in the following ways:

• 1. 1.5 HP wall vacs and a 1 gallon tank are available for quick and easy cleaning jobs, such as spills. You can also hang this guy on the wall, which will keep him out of your way.
• 2. Six gallon vacuum cleaners are ideal for small jobs and are easy to maneuver and store as a larger model. However, keep in mind that small dry / wet cleaners are much stronger and more prone to tipping over. The smaller the tank, the more often you will have to stop and empty it.
• 3. Higher capacity models are recommended if you have a workshop or garage where larger spills occur. A large tank will reduce the number of times you need to empty the tank.

When searching for the best wet / dry vacuum for you, you should look for the following options and features:

• The pleated cartridge filter. It is reusable and can be rinsed. It offers more filtration area than the flat filter and does not need to be removed when switching from dry to wet suction.
• An automatic shut-off feature is available with most newer vacuum cleaners. This mechanism will automatically stop the engine once the tank is filled with water, which will prevent it from overflowing.
• A wide set of wheels will help prevent the vacuum from tipping over.
• Some of the larger models can convert to a leaf blower, which is great if you have a lot of trees in your garden.
• Some wet / dry models also have an integrated pump. This type of attachment will allow water to be pumped through a garden hose that connects to the vacuum cleaner.
• A drain valve or a practical shoot will make emptying the vacuum cleaner easier. If this is not the case, you will need to remove the lid and tilt the vacuum cleaner to the side to drain all the water. Depending on how much water you have in the tank, you could easily accidentally spill it on the ground. Smaller types of wet / dry vacuums do not normally have a spout or drain option.
• Larger pipes and nozzles on the ground are also interesting. The wider the pipe and the nozzle, the less the vacuum may be clogged.
