Your pool and winter

It's almost winter, it's time to winter. Winterizing is the process of preparing your homes, vacation homes, cars, boats and even your lawn and yard for winter weather. It is important to prepare your water and irrigation systems for the winter, to prevent the pipes from bursting due to freezing water and your cars to avoid accidents and collisions.

Another feature of the house that requires wintering is the pool. When winterizing a swimming pool, the first step is to rid the pool of all types of debris or contaminants. You can use mosquito nets, filters and stakes with mosquito nets to rid the water of any contaminants. You can start wintering your pool in the fall.

If you have an above ground pool, check for leaks and cover it immediately. There are many pools that are damaged due to a simple leak. Since the water would turn to ice and expand, the walls of the above ground pool would be under pressure. This pressure can be dangerous, especially if a crack or leak already exists.

In addition to cleaning it, also check the chemical composition of the pool water. You have to make sure that the chemical balance is maintained. A balanced chemical composition of the pool water would ensure that the pool surface is free of stains and etching.

To make it easier for homeowners, some manufacturers offer winter kits. These winter kits would include winter chlorine, winter alkalizer and winter powder. These winter kits would allow the pool to stay clean until after the winter season. It is important to read the manufacturer's instructions when installing or using these winter chemicals in your pool.

After adding the winter chemicals and cleaning the filters, you must make sure that all the appropriate places are covered. Plumbing pipes must be free of water, you can use a shop vacuum to do this. This would eliminate the water from each filter line. Then make sure it is covered with plugs. In addition to the lines, make sure that the pump is also drained.

You would also need a pool cover. Some recommend the use of a floatation device in the middle of the pool before covering it. The use of this flotation device would allow the ice to push towards the middle of the pool, which would relieve the pool walls of pressure that could cause support problems later. When covering your pool, make sure it is covered. You do not want the pool cover to fly with the wind or the rain.

Make sure there are no chemicals such as chlorine and bromine tablets left in any part of your pool, be it at the bottom of your pool or when you leave. This would cause serious damage to the pool, feeder and other equipment.
