Easy steps on your kitchen tile

Tiling is a job that most people prefer not to learn to do because it can be scary to make mistakes in the process. However, it's actually a lot easier than many would think. In fact, this can save you a lot of money compared to hiring a professional. As long as you know what to do and what not to do, this task is obvious to you.

Choose your tiles

To begin, you must choose the tiles you want to use. You may be surprised by the number of variety choices you make. The tiles can be of different sizes, colors, textures, materials and finishes. You may encounter tiles of irregular sizes. This is done by companies, which forces you to buy more.

The choice of a tile depends heavily on you. It may also depend on how you want the room to be and the design and feel of the room.

Measurements and calculations

You must also measure your floor area. You also need to decide if you want the tiles to be placed under any type of fittings and units. As a general rule, it is best to place the tiles under the fittings. Indeed, if you had to move appliances in the future, like a refrigerator, you will not have to lift it over the edge of your new tile.

When you have chosen the type of mosaic dataset you want to use, you must perform certain calculations. You must know the width of your floor and divide it by the width of a tile. This allows to know the number of complete lines that you will have. In addition, this can help you choose the optimal wall edge against which to place your cut tiles.

Application

After doing the math, you can now start applying tiles to your floor. Make sure you have an even coat of glue on your subfloor. The type of adhesive to use depends on your subfloor or the surface to be tiled. If it is a concrete floor, you can use a quick setting adhesive. However, be careful not to spread the mixture too much at once, as it can take up to 30 minutes.

If it is a wooden subfloor, you need a flexible adhesive. You can tell if an adhesive is flexible if it is written on the bag or on the tub. If you have slate, you must use a gray adhesive. If you are going to have marble, then you need a white adhesive. This so that no color from below will bleed and ruin your drawing.

grout

Once you have finished fixing your tiles on the floor and after allowing enough time to dry, you need to do some sealing. If you have natural tiles, such as marble, slate, limestone, granite, travertine and porcelain, you must seal them before they can be sealed. You must use a specialized impregnating sealer to make it waterproof and more resistant to dirt and stains.

Mix the grout and apply it with a grout float on your tiles. Try to fill in the gaps until they are all filled. If you have white marble tiles, you should use a white grout instead of gray as the gray type may stain the marble.
