Easy steps to apply texture to your drywall

We have to admit that we spend a lot of money decorating our homes. In fact, some people even hire interior designers just to get a more desirable interior. And when it comes to drywall, people are now trying to add some texture to make the walls look livelier and more beautiful. It can be very expensive if you hire a professional. If you have a little extra time, you may want to try this project yourself because it will help you save a lot of money.

First, you must keep in mind that there are different ways to add texture to the drywall of your home. There are just a lot of options to choose from.

You can choose a popcorn texture, which is basically a heavy texture that is usually applied to the ceilings to muffle the sound. This can be very beneficial for people who have a home theater system or a music room, because it helps to contain the sound inside the room. The disadvantage of popcorn textures is that they are very difficult to clean and can really accumulate a lot of dirt and dust, and it is very difficult to apply paint.

Another texture is the knockdown or skriptrowel texture. This texture is very popular because it looks like Spanish style stucco. This drywall can really bring out the beauty of your home.

Splashing or orange peel texture is another great option for your home. This texture will vary from a sequence of tiny blobs or splashes on the wall and it may also look like a large bunch of finds that resembles a texture of orange zest.

Before you start, you need the right materials to produce the texture effects. Basically, you'll need a ribbon knife, old paintbrushes, stencils, plastic sheets, a soft bristle brush, and a drywall joint compound.

To begin, you must remove everything that is attached to the wall, such as the switch plates and the jack cover. You must cover and remove all furniture from the wall on which you plan to apply texture and you must also protect your floor with non-slip clothing.

You must also remove all wallpapers, as the drywall compound may have excessive moisture, which may detach the wallpaper, which would cause a lot of damage and time for cleaning.

Then start the texture design by applying the compound along the skirting boards and above the walls as well as the corner. Depending on the design, the thickness varies. If you want a rougher texture on your drywall, apply thicker compounds to the wall. You do not need to be precise during the application, the diversity of the thicknesses will allow you to obtain a better effect on the texture.

You can try to vary the texture using different tools, such as wallpaper brushes and old brushes. You can also use sponges to get this swirl effect or this stroke effect. If you want to be a bit more creative, you can use your hands or fingers to create a unique and attractive design for your wall.

Remember that when using your hands, you should wear latex gloves.
