Sand your hardwood floor

For DIYers, the most boring part of hardwood flooring installations is where the floor needs to be sanded. You see, since there is never any precision or accuracy when using an organic material such as wood, it is inevitable that the height and lack of boards are uneven. And when that happens, your only option is to sand the surface evenly.

There are different types of sanders. There is the drum sander and the orbital sander. The orbital sander is said to be easier to use and more reliable, but the drum sander is more commonly available. If buying your own sander is not an option, you can hire it from floor installation specialists, who will also be willing to teach you how to operate it.

The best sandpaper for new soils is a 20 grit, but you can switch to a higher grit once sanding is complete. Sanding experts say the best way to sand your hardwood floor is to use only one direction and go from right to left. This is due to the fact that the sanders are built unevenly, the left serving as digger and the right part of sweeper. You will not want to sweep before cutting the excess wood.

Expect to have a good workout while sanding your floor, as the machine is not child's play. It can be very heavy and will require strength from you to control its direction. If you just leave it to its element, it could run in unpredictable directions and cause damage instead of making the surface smooth.

That's why you should not experiment with sanding. If you appreciate your hardwood floor, first find out about the proper sanding techniques before you start. If it's too tedious for you, then hire professional sanders to do the job. It is better to spend for professional services than to spend more money because you have sanded your floor in the wrong way.
