Dry skin
Dry skin reacts a little differently to normal skin when exposed to the sun.
It tends to burn more easily and when it burns, it also tends to peel.
This will cause itching of the skin and this can also be a problem in cold weather, when the skin can be irritated by dryness.
Where the skin is particularly dry, it can become scaly and sometimes even chapped, which will make the skin quite painful.
People with dry skin often have a fair complexion, although this is not reserved for fair people, because dry skin can also be found in people of any other complexion.
The areas between the cheeks and forehead are those that tend to dry out and the cheeks also tend to feel tense after cleaning.
Many factors contribute to skin dryness and any skin will become drier as we get older.
Factors that can dry up the skin can include the weather, the environment we live in, the foods we eat and even the medications we have.
People with dry skin tend to throw their skin cells into clumps rather than cell by cell, as other types of skin would do, which partly explains why the skin is dry.
It's not just because of lack of moisture, as many people think.
Moisturizers will help reduce skin dryness, but you will need to choose a moisturizer that will not stop the skin from flowing, as this is one of the causes of dryness.
Gentle skin exfoliation can help moisturizers do their job better, but you also need to be very careful here because it can cause skin sensitivities.
