How to repair the damage on your hardwood floor

Your hardwood floor, no matter how strong, is not spared from wear. Over time, it will be at the mercy of splashing water or ink, scratches on the heel, hardened gum, accumulated dust and dirt, and other nuisances on the floor. But before taking the phone to call for professional assistance, know that you can repair some minor damage yourself.

Here are some tips on how to repair a damaged hardwood floor.

1) Damage caused by stains

Water is the worst enemy of hardwood floors. A single stain can spoil the appearance of the entire surface and often the only way to make the necessary repairs to get rid of this visual pollution is to rehabilitate the entire floor.

However, you can still try to save the situation by focusing first on the affected area. If it's not something you can fix with sanding, it's time to look for replacement blades. But, hey, if you think that the stain is what gives the character of your soil, then you really have nothing to do.

2) Damage caused by scratches

Some people use putty sticks to fill in the scratches. Simply rub the stick on the affected area and then wipe it with a soft, dry cloth. More likely than not, any appearance of a scratch will disappear. This is a quick fix to a big problem and will save you from having to call in experts for such a minor job.

3) Damage beyond the power of minor repairs

Of course, there will be times when the damage becomes too great for simple repair techniques to be managed. In this case, you will need to replace the hardwood board that was destroyed. Again, it is not necessary to call the specialists for this job because it is something you can manage yourself.

What you should do is remove the damaged panel, get a new board of the same size and put it down. Now it sounds very easy but it does involve several processes to complete. However, even if there are several procedures, you will find that each step is easy to follow, even for a beginner to replace floorboards.

Your hardwood floor gives you more value than you think. Aside from its physical beauty, the fact that it stands the test of time is reason enough to give it the maintenance controls and care it deserves. And if the work can be done using both your hands and your patience, then it is impossible to spend professional help.
