Overview of the humidifiers

Domestic humidifiers are a device that adds moisture to the air inside a home. They are used during the winter months or in exceptionally dry environments. People who suffer from breathing problems, such as asthma or severe allergies, often benefit from using a household humidifier.

Humidifiers can help prevent winter infections and reduce the symptoms of colds, flu and asthma. Maintaining adequate moisture levels can also help relieve sinus pain, sore throat and itchy eyes. Humidifiers can prevent dry skin and chapped lips.

There are three types of humidifiers available on the table, on the console and for the whole house.

Table humidifiers are the cheapest and are used to add moisture to one room. Table humidifiers have small water tanks that need to be filled more often than consoles. There are two types of evaporative and hot mist humidifiers.

Evaporative models use a fan that blows on a wick. The wick system uses a wick or sheet of paper, fabric or foam to draw water from the reservoir. Evaporative models tend to be noisier than hot mist humidifiers.

Hot mist models usually involve the use of a heating element in the humidifier that heats the water before it disperses into the air. Due to the addition of the heating element, hot mist models tend to be more expensive to operate than evaporative models.

When shopping for a desktop humidifier, look for a device that is easy to transport, fill, clean and easily replace a wick. Also look for easy-to-use controls and units that offer automatic programming. The price of domestic table humidifiers is between $ 20 and $ 100.

Console humidifiers work like evaporative humidifiers to humidify the entire house. Console humidifiers use larger tanks and do not require as much filling as the wet-on humidifiers. Console humidifiers are effective for adding moisture to multiple rooms. They can be placed discreetly in a corner or behind a piece of furniture.

Whole house humidifiers are installed in the ducts, next to the furnace and add moisture to the entire house. Whole household humidifiers can only be used with forced air heating.
