Get out more dirt

The most important part of carpet care is removing and removing accumulated dry soil. The removal of dry soil will improve indoor air quality, extend the life of the carpet and contribute to its maintenance. Keeping regular maintenance on your carpet is one thing, although being sure you have the right equipment at work is another.

The green label

For vacuum cleaners, the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) has developed a Green Label test program. The IRC developed the performance protocol to protect indoor quality, keep all surfaces as clean as possible, and not put dust back in the air.

The green label program helps to identify vacuum cleaners that meet three different types of criteria:

  • 1. Remove the soil.
  • 2. Keep the dust out of the air by confining it in the filter bag and in the machine itself.
  • 3. It does not damage the carpet and helps keep it looking good.

Tests to determine the certification of a vacuum cleaner were developed by carpet and vacuum experts and reviewed by experienced scientists in the areas of maintenance and indoor air quality.

Soil removal

The ground disposal protocol will require the vacuum cleaner to remove a specified amount of ground from the test carpet in four passes.

Confinement of the dust

The dust containment protocol will dictate the total amount of dust particles released into the ambient air by the action of the brush rolls, through the filter bag, as well as any leaks from the suction system.

With this test, the vacuum cleaner can not release more than 100 micrograms of dust particles per cubic meter of air.

Carpet retention

The test protocol for the preservation of appearance will require that the vacuum cleaner does not alter the appearance of the carpet, based on a year of normal use.

If a vacuum cleaner meets the three requirements above, the manufacturer can then display the official CRI green label on the brand of its vacuum cleaner.

CRI tests cartridge vacuums and vertical vacuums, large area vacuums and even appliances.

Assorted machines

The search for this important green label is the first look for your home or office.

The next step is to select the right vacuum for a specific area. You may think of vacuum cleaners as screwdrivers because you would not want to use a Phillips screwdriver to remove a flathead screw.

In the largest and most open areas, a large vacuum cleaner or sweeper can produce excellent results, as well as an increase in productivity.

The 14-inch vertical vacuum cleaner can clean at a speed of 3,000 square feet per hour, while the average walk behind can clean at a rate of 40,000 square feet per hour, and also raises the pile of carpets in areas to heavy traffic where carpet fibers are prone to crushing and matting.

The two-motor vertical vacuum is an excellent choice in areas such as executive offices, lobbies, conference rooms and break areas. A two-motor post can clean the carpet fibers and remove dry soil.

Most studs with two engine configurations will also have a removable hose and built-in accessories for cleaning other areas, such as vents and chairs.

In addition to the type of area, you also need to think about the needs of the operator.

If you are a manager, you should look for vacuum cleaners with ergonomic features, especially if the vacuum cleaner will be used for long periods of time.

If it is not designed ergonomically, the operator could be injured.
